Project 365 Catch up - 31/8/13

I haven't posted in a couple days and really need to kick the habit...

This morning I had some time to spare in Southampton so went a bit Instagram mad,

All of today's photos are on my instagram feed which you should be able to follow here http://instagram.com/daniel_imaging :)

Noticed the leaves falling off the trees :(

So I'm back to work on Monday so the theme for next week will be making sure I post every day...

Project 365 Day 26 - 28/8/13

Todays photos are from Sea Life Centre in Brighton, which was very cool but challenging for photography. It was very dim down in the aquariums and getting a decent shutter speed without too much grainy noise was hard. Even after trying to reduce it in photoshop the grain is still evident. I spent most of my time manually focusing as it was too dark for auto focus so getting sharp images wasn't easy. Heres a select few of the better pictures...

I tried a tilt shift effect on the crab photo which makes the focus really selective, the other effect it can have is make the in focus subjects look miniature but it didn't really work. Tabs reckoned the crabs looked like they were at the pub having a pint and talking about crab stuff.

Project 365 Day 25 - 27/8/13

Today I met up with a good mate of mine, Dave. We had a walk round town and ended up playing a couple rounds of mini golf, and that's where I got today's snap...

Project 365 Day 24 - 26/8/13

My attempt at star trails tonight was scuppered by clouds that decided to show up so I decided to do an HDR from an old set of bracketed shots, started with these...

And ended up with this, on reflection might have done a bit too much dodging...

Project 365 Day 22/23 - 25/8/13

Today I went out with the intention of shooting a ship wreck down on the estuary but the combination of high tide and harsh sunlight rendered my shots a bit underwhelming. I've been wanting to try HDR for a while just to try it out more than anything and took a set of bracketed shots of a bridge while I was out, here is the end result...

And this was what I got when I accidentally let off the shutter between bracketed shots, thought the rays looked cool for an accident of a shot...

Project 365 Day 21 - 23/8/13

A day late again, but yesterday I was on a boat all day fishing with my old man so photography wasn't high on my priority list...

Hold on to your butts...

Tools of the trade...

We're gonna need a bigger boat... (Photo taken by my dad)

Project 365 Day 18 - 20/8/13 ish...

Yesterday I was still feeling pretty rough, I managed to take a picture but didn't get round to uploading. Editing it this morning I tried out a new ipad editor which I'm tempted to review as its fully featured and capable of some creative edits. I couldn't get it to export without just giving a really pixelated image so unfortunately I have had to upload a screenshot,

Here's todays... I mean yesterday's, photo...

Felt pretty ill this afternoon so here is a pic from my instagram feed from today, a view of the top of a glass of coke that looks like a smiley face :)

Project 365 Day 10-16 - 12th-18th August... back from my hols

Someone might have noticed I hadn't been posting over the last week, the fact is I have been on holiday on the south coast of Spain. So to cover the last week heres a selection of my holiday snaps :)

We visited Gibraltar and even with the current political tension we crossed the border relatively easily and got a chance to get up, close and personal with the monkeys.

Animals featured quite heavily this holiday as we also visited a zoo called Bioparc, which I would highly recommend. There are no bars, just perspex windows, and the majority of enclosures are open topped so you can get a good view of the animals which makes getting quality photos easier. Something that I often find disappointing is photographs of animals through a chain link fence, the only tricky thing with photographing through windows is not getting a reflection obscuring your subject so I pushed the lens as close to the glass as possible to avoid it.

This is the first portrait on the blog, we were just messing around in Starbucks waiting for our flight and I liked the light and just narrow enough depth of field.

So as of tomorrow should be back to normal for Project 365...

Project 365 Day 6 - 8/8/13

Today I decided to take a camera with me wherever I ended up, this shot was taken in a car park...

Project 365 Day 5 - 7/8/13

So today I've been busy and I did manage to squeeze in an instagram post but todays photo is another late one. I've been enjoying long exposure photography when its dark so tried something new for me, light painting :)

I soon realised I was probably really peeing off the neighbours so this is as far as my 'painting' got but I've seen some really cool stuff done by others so you will likely see more of this on the blog. I really need to find somewhere to do it where I'm not going to flash my lights through windows.

The hardest thing was fitting my painting in the frame and running back and forth from the camera while the timer was going and the shutter was open but it was fun :)

Project 365 Day 4 - 6/8/13

I take lots of photos of my cats, they are always there and usually willing to be photographed so I'm not pushing myself to do anything particularly new with today's photo. I managed to snap Gabby in an unusual pose looking right down the lens but being so close with focus manually set to as close as possible her eyes are a little soft so I gave it a lo fi edit to make it work.

I could have narrowed my aperture to help keep things sharp being so close but I like the butteriness of the bokeh...

Project 365 Day 3 - 5/8/13 Iphonography...

Today's photo was shot and edited on my iphone. I used a colour splash app to remove the colour from the background and did a few quick edits in Luminance et voi la...

I like it, just a shame Chewie isn't giving the fish toy evils...

Project 365 Day 2 - 4/8/13

Today me and my wife were in Winchester for the vintage market and complacently I expected it to be easy to find photographic inspiration. There are quite a few substantial and interesting landmarks along Winchesters high street but I was looking for something a bit different. However inspiration did not come, after returning home I racked my brains for an idea of what to photograph.

I decided that rather than expect inspiration to come to me I would go after it and ventured out towards the Hamble estuary. Funnily enough I found several subjects to shoot but it was in my first few shots that today's daily photo was snapped. I actually couldn't choose which I preferred from these 2, one shot at full zoom and the other wide angle, which do you think is better?
